Kilkenny city full of life!

Kenmur House wishes all our past and future guests a very healthy and safe St. Patricks Day. We took a stroll through the Castle today for a nice crisp walk to see the crocus’ in bloom. Kilkenny city was busy with numerous events taking place for the Kilkenny Tradfest, a vintage carousel on the parade and yellow rubber ducks even took up a section of the river for a charity duck race!! Unfortunately our duck didn’t win but great entertainment was had by all. If you’re planning on a trip to the city just contact us.

Summer 2014 Events

It’s been a while since we’ve posted about events in Kilkenny, there’s so many to cover it’s hard to get around to everything! The Kilkenny Cat laughs was another great success this year. Following on from this there are plenty of more festivals and activities to keep you occupied on your trip to Kilkenny. Here are just a few highlights, for more check out the Kilkenny Tourism website.

A new festival called Light Colour Sound takes place in Shankill Castle, Paulstown Friday 4th and Saturday 5th of July. It is a festival of music art and culture and there are some great Irish acts included in the line up. Full details can be found at

For the more active, why not try the Graignamnagh/Tinnahinch Regatta and Rowing Festival 3-4th August, details here. Or how about the Kilkenny Triathlon on Saturday 19th of July where you get a chance to swim the River Nore, run around the grounds of the Castle and cycle out to Kilkennys beautiful countryside! Full information on this event can be found here.

The ever-popular Kilkenny Arts Week will take place from the 8th-17th August. The programme is jam-packed with music, art on display, and daily performances in unique venues around Kilkenny city and county. Full details of the programme can be found at: To whet your appetite, check out the promotional video for Kilkenny Arts Week 2014.

Don’t forget to Contact us to book your accommodation and take advantage of some of the great Festivals and Activities Kilkenny has on offer this summer!

Kilkenny Cycling Trails

There are some great cycling trails around Kilkenny which can be found from the Trail Kilkenny website. We tested out the East Kilkenny cycle trail which is a 64km cycle route, however leaving from the city (Kenmur house) it is an 80km round trip (it should be 90km but if you avoid one of the major hills outside Graiguenamanagh and take the shortcut to Inistioge it’s only 80km!!). It’s a beautiful route taking in the rolling countryside of Kilkenny. Having a cooked breakfast before you leave from Kenmur House sets you up for the few hours of pedalling! It was a glorious day when we did the trip and we stopped in Graiguenamanagh for some ice-cream and watch the barges go by. You can also take the cycle at a leisurely pace and stop in any of the towns/villages for coffee and lunch! We highly recommend the Trail Kilkenny website which gives you the opportunity to explore more of what Kilkenny county has to offer. So bring your bikes with you and contact us for availability!

Made in KK

Tri Kilkenny and Bruce Springsteen

These last few weeks in Kilkenny have been hectic! Particularly the last weekend in July when the Boss rolled into town!! There was a great atmosphere throughout the marble city during Saturday as many locals came out to support the great triathletes taking part in TriGrandPrix! The setting was amazing, a swim up the river Nore and into the Castle grounds to collect their bikes for a spin out the countryside, then back for few laps of the Castle before crossing the finish line just outside the Castle itself.  The sun was shining on the city (we’ll not mention the monsoon showers that happened every so often!) and everyone seemed in great spirits!! For some pictures of the TriGrandPrix check out our Facebook page. That night we were treated to the first of two show-stopping performances by Bruce Springsteen as he finished his Wrecking Ball Tour. It will definitely be a weekend that will live long in the memory of all those in attendance. Fingers crossed he will return to Kilkenny in the future for more sell-out shows!

24 hours in Kilkenny Review by The Taste

The Taste

The Taste is Ireland’s online Food & Drink Magazine and they recently published the Top 5 venues for Lunch, Dinner and a pint in Kilkenny. Ok, they recommend 5 Hotels too, but nothing beats a stay at Kenmur House! 🙂 There really is a great selection of venues that 24hours is just not enough time to pack them all in!! Some of our favourites were included in the list such as Campagne, Zuni and Rinuccinis. There’s also some new restaurants we can’t wait to try! To read the review please click here. Once you’ve finished drooling over all the amazing food in the pictures don’t forget to book into Kenmur House for your stay, we’re less than a 10mins walk from the city centre so that will surely burn off the dessert! 😉
